These courses contain the basic information that all workforce members should know. These annual training courses are required of all workforce members.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who is required to take the 2026 Annual Training?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 2026 Annual Training courses are required for staff, contractors and volunteers (a) who are members of the UW Medicine workforce, (b) who work at a UW Medicine location OR (c) who have contact with patients, who started prior to January 1st, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Examples include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Permanent staff &#8211; both classified and professional staff<\/li>\n<li>Temporary staff &#8211; FDA, hourly and PSTA<\/li>\n<li>Designated non-UW employees working in a UW Medicine medical center (e.g., certain contractors and students)<\/li>\n<li>Volunteers<\/li>\n<li>Interns<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Physicians, residents, and fellows do <strong>not<\/strong> take the Staff Refresher Training; they are required to take the following Annual Training courses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2026 Required Clinician Training<\/li>\n<li>2026 Workplace Violence Prevention Training<\/li>\n<li>2026 Mandatory Compliance Training<\/li>\n<li>Documentation\/Coding Excellence (odd years) or EHR Integrity (even years)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">What information do the 2026 Annual Training courses contain?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 2026 Staff Refresher Training contains the following topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mission &amp; Patients Are First<\/li>\n<li>Environment of Care &amp; Emergency Management<\/li>\n<li>Infection Prevention<\/li>\n<li>Patient Safety<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The 2026 Workplace Violence Prevention Training includes the following topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>General Safety Procedures for Workplace Violence<\/li>\n<li>Signs of Agitation and Steps of the Escalation Cycle<\/li>\n<li>Predictors of Violence and Best Time to Engage a Patient During Escalation Cycle<\/li>\n<li>Strategies to Mitigate Workplace Violence Events<\/li>\n<li>Elements of a Code Gray<\/li>\n<li>How Incident Reports are Reported<\/li>\n<li>How to Initiate and Conduct a Staff Debrief Following a Workplace Violence Event<\/li>\n<li>Locating the Well-Being Resources and the Workplace Violence Prevention Plan<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The 2026 Mandatory Compliance Training topics include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Compliance Program Overview<\/li>\n<li>Conflicts of Interest and Ethics<\/li>\n<li>Fraud, Waste and Abuse Prevention<\/li>\n<li>Other Healthcare Regulations<\/li>\n<li>Protecting Patient Information and Information Security<\/li>\n<li>Reporting Concerns<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More information about required compliance training can be found: <a href=\"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/comply\/training-programs\/\">https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/comply\/training-programs\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Documentation and Coding Excellence course, offered in odd years, includes the following topics:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>How patient complexity is calculated<\/li>\n<li>How to define the minimum and optimal outpatient documentation standards using Monitor, Evaluate, Assess, Treat (MEAT) criteria<\/li>\n<li>How high complexity diagnosis codes and sufficient documentation can most easily incorporated into practice<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>If I recently completed the 2025 Annual Refresher Training, will I need to complete the 2026 Annual Training courses?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes, you will need to complete the courses for the current calendar year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If I attended new employee orientation this year, why don\u2019t I have to take the Staff Refresher Training?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>New Employee Orientation (NEO) provides new employees with our most up-to-date regulatory and safety information. The Staff Refresher Training is designed to update current employees on an annual basis with the same information presented at NEO. For most workforce members, NEO attendance meets the same training requirements as the Staff Refresher Training for the current year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do I get to the training?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>UW Medicine Instructions<\/strong>:<br \/>\nTo access these eLearning courses, go to the UW Medicine Learning Hub: <a href=\"https:\/\/lms.uwmedicine.org\/\">https:\/\/lms.uwmedicine.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The following courses will be in your timeline:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2026 Staff Refresher Training (staff that did not complete NEO in 2026)<\/li>\n<li>2026 Workplace Violence Prevention Training<\/li>\n<li>2026 Mandatory Compliance Training<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each Annual Training course in your Timeline section of the Learning Hub will have a <strong>START<\/strong> button next to the course title. Click <strong>START<\/strong> to begin the course. Remember, if you aren\u2019t sure who is logged in to the Learning Hub, close all the browser windows and make sure you log in with your UW NetID.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When using a shared computer, how do I know I will get credit?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To obtain credit for completing this training it is critical to ensure your name is displayed. When you get to the Learner Dashboard, make sure your name is displayed on the upper right side of your screen. If not, you should close all browser windows and log in to the Learning Hub with your own account credentials.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I don\u2019t have time to do the Annual Training courses at work. Can I complete them at home?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>UW Medicine workforce members should use a UW Medicine IT Services standard computer to complete your eLearning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the alternate version?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW75863699 BCX8\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW75863699 BCX8\">The Annual Training has historically included an alternate delivery method for learners who had limited access to workstations or lacked UW Medicine accounts; however, this was a legacy delivery method that is no longer needed<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW75863699 BCX8\">.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW75863699 BCX8\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the volunteer manager\u2019s\/supervisor\u2019s role when processing the volunteer training completion?\u202f\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Volunteer managers will be expected to\u202fvalidate\u202fcompletion and verify that the volunteers understand the content in each of the 2026 Annual Training courses.\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>I work within a UW Medicine Entity, and I need to provide evidence of the training provided in one of the Annual Training courses to an auditor or other governing organization.
