{"id":46,"date":"2015-03-10T00:00:08","date_gmt":"2015-03-10T00:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/uwpeds\/medstudents\/?p=46"},"modified":"2024-12-05T00:34:25","modified_gmt":"2024-12-05T00:34:25","slug":"peds-625-emergency-medicine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/uwpeds\/medstudents\/?p=46","title":{"rendered":"PEDS 625 Emergency Medicine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"top\" \/><strong>A Note from the Division of Emergency Medicine at Seattle Children\u2019s<\/strong>\n\nWe are pleased you have signed up to do a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Advanced Patient Clerkship.\u00a0 During this rotation we expect 4th year students to strive to function at the level of an intern.\u00a0 This means that you will have ED shifts scheduled similar to our interns (days, evenings, and weekends).\n\nTo prepare for your elective, please find a pediatric ER textbook of your choice to reference for the month.\u00a0 Some popular textbooks are by Barkin, Strange and Fleisher &amp; Ludwig.\u00a0 Topics that you should familiarize yourself with prior to the rotation include pediatric abdominal pain, bronchiolitis and asthma, pediatric fractures and neonatal fevers.\u00a0 As the month progresses, I encourage you to read further about different topics that you encounter during your shifts.\n\n<a href=\"mailto:tamar.anderson@seattlechildrens.org\">Tamar Anderson<\/a> in the ED offices will be in charge of setting your schedule.\n\nPrior to your first shift, please contact me via email so that we can review expectations for your elective.\u00a0 I look forward to hearing from you.\n\nSincerely,\nW. After you have completed this step, you will attend a required orientation in the Children\u2019s ED with the students on MED EM 609, the required Emergency Medicine Clerkship.\u00a0 This orientation takes place on the first day of the rotation, typically at 11:30AM.\n\n<strong>Where to report: <\/strong>After you have completed the sign-in and badging process in the Medical Student Office and required ED orientation, you are clear to attend your first shift in the ED.\n\n<h3 class='posttitle'>Network &#038; EMR Access at SCH, Remote Access Info &#038; WiFi at SCH<\/h3><p><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><u><strong>Network and EMR Access at SCH:<\/strong><\/u> Students on this rotation are required to be up-to-date with any required SCH web-based EMR and safety training modules. You will receive information from the Medical Student Office on how to complete any required modules. Once you have completed the modules and the required sign-in and badging process, you will be given network and EMR access. You will receive instructions from <a href=\"mailto:medical.students@seattlechildrens.org\">medical.students@seattlechildrens.org<\/a> on how to log into Workday to complete your required training.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-size: 12px;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><u><strong>Remote Network and EMR Access:<\/strong><\/u> In addition to access at SCH, medical students on this rotation have remote network and EMR access through the Okta Verify system. To get Haiku on your phone, download Microsoft Intune, Children&#8217;s mobile device management system app, by following the instructions (Steps 1 &amp; 2) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattlechildrens.org\/employees\/epic-mobile-apps\/\">here<\/a>.
