Canvas is a cloud-based, modern Learning Management System (LMS) that allows for easy publishing of course materials, simplified course management, seamless course calendaring, communication and collaboration with students, and efficient grading.

Cloud-based, campus-wide, lecture capture and presentation recording software
Panopto is replacing Tegrity and is a cloud-based, lecture capture presentation recording service that allows for easy recording and reviewing of courses, lectures and presentations. Panopto is designed to make the lecture capture process easy. Recordings in Panopto are viewable on most browsers and mobile devices. We recommend creating all new recordings in Panopto as Tegrity will be retired on March 20, 2015.

Mass notification including telephones, text messaging, email, and an outdoor public address system
During emergencies, effective communication requires using a variety of methods and tools to "get the word out." The UW Emergency Notification system includes:
UW Alert: A self-subscribing program where faculty, staff, and students can sign up to be alerted to emergencies on campus
UW Outdoor Alert: An outdoor public address system
UW Alert was developed to disseminate official information during emergencies or crisis situations that may disrupt the normal operation of the UW or threaten the health or safety of members of the UW community.
UW Alert is offered on a voluntary, self-subscription basis for current UW faculty, staff, and students at UW Bothell, UW Seattle, UW Tacoma, and UW Medicine.
UW Alert delivers messages to subscribers on a "best effort" basis to email and to Short Message Service (SMS) text-capable wireless devices, such as many cellular telephones.
UW Alert notifications are also available on Facebook and Twitter.
UW Outdoor Alert
UW Outdoor Alert is a public broadcast system for communicating quickly and effectively in the event of a disaster or emergency. The broadcast towers also include emergency phones with direct two-way communication with the UW Police Department.
UW Alert Exception:
There is a scheduled weekly maintenance window every Saturday, 9:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., when service may not be available. Other maintenance windows may be scheduled on an ad hoc basis.
This service is covered in part by the Technology Recharge Fee and in part by central funding.
In the event of a disaster or other large-scale event, Priority Communications can be used by UW staff to help in response and recovery activities. These include:
Priority Communications: Enhanced access to telephone service using the federal Government Emergency Telecommunications Service (GETS) and/or Wireless Priority Service (WPS) programs
Government Emergency Telecommunications Service (GETS) provides personnel a high probability of completion for their phone calls (i.e., land line) when normal calling methods are unsuccessful. It is designed for periods of severe network congestion or disruption. Users receive a GETS calling card to access the service. This card provides access phone numbers, Personal Identification Numbers (PIN), and simple dialing instructions.
Wireless Priority Service (WPS) is a method of improving connection capabilities for a limited number of authorized cell phone users. In the event of congestion in the wireless network, an emergency call using WPS will wait in queue for the next available channel.
UW Information Technology serves as the UW point of contact for these programs, and will order and help implement them for UW units.
