Alex Greninger, MD, PhD, MS, MPhil<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Alex Greninger is the Head of the Division of Infectious Disease Diagnostics (DIDD) at the University of Washington Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, which integrates Microbiology, Molecular Microbiology, and Virology Sections. As the Larry Corey Endowed Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, he combines deep scientific curiosity with a steadfast commitment to advancing the science and practice of infectious disease diagnostics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to his clinical and academic leadership, Dr. Greninger directs the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) and HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN) Clinical Trials Laboratory, supporting decades-long global research efforts that continue to shape the response to infectious diseases. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

His research focuses on the genomically informed approaches to improving diagnostics, therapeutics, and preventative measures for a variety of human viruses and bacteria, with particular emphasis on respiratory viruses, human herpesviruses, and Treponema pallidum<\/em>. His team has discovered and characterized numerous new human and animal viruses, contributing to our understanding of viral evolution, diversity, and the mechanisms that drive cross-species transmission. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At UW\u2019s South Lake Union research campus, the Greninger Lab brings together molecular innovation, computational biology, and translational science to address real-world challenges in infectious disease diagnosis and management. Dr. Greninger\u2019s work reflects his belief that rigorous science and diagnostic excellence are inseparable from the mission of improving public health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Greninger earned his M.D. and Ph.D., from UC San Francisco and his M.Phil. in Epidemiology from Cambridge in England, and his M.S. in Immunology, B.A. in International Relations, and B.S. in Biological Sciences from Stanford.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
