Chronology:

1891- Born in Ronsdorf, Germany on May 18.

1910-1914- Studied at Univerity of Jena and University of Freiburg.

1914- Served in the military.

1921- Received his Doctoral degree in philosophy from University of Jena.

1926-1931- An instructor of philosophy in Vienna and played a major part in

the Vienna Circle.

1931-1935- Professor of Natural Philosophy in Prague.

1935- Moved to the United States to escape Nazism. He became a part of the faculty

at the University of Chicago.

1940-1941- Visiting Professor at Harvard University.

1941- Received his American citizenship.

1954- Accepted a seat on the faculty at the University of California, Los Angeles.

1970- Died in Santa Monica, California on September 14.
