Marie Geistinger
actress She was one of the star performers in the 1870’s and 1880’s. By working in dialect drama as well as operettas, she helped in preserving the link between the two genres. Her versatility was marvelous. She could fascinate with her singing in light operas, Der Seekadet or Die schöne Galatee, and on a succeeding night thrill an audience with her Kameliendame or some other tragic role. She was the star performer of the production Die Fledermaus which went on stage in 1874. A huge success, it was given forty nine performances in sixty five days at the Theater an der Wien.
