in Vienna 1900 Founded in 1776, the Burgtheater belongs to the oldest and most traditional theatres of the world. As the royal court theater it was funded by the government, however presented primarily a conservative upper class audience. It featured traditional big budget productions with rich décor, distinguished actors and elaborate design. Over the years a constantly changing ensemble formed the specific Burgtheater style, which was characterized by a particular way of speaking.
The Burgtheater holds a gallery with a collection of portraits, sculptures and frescos, which, accumulated over the period of two decades, honor past artist throughout the entire building.
