Derek Ferguson

Derek Ferguson is enrolled in the Nursing Program at Clark College. Derek found a strong sense of community he felt he could identify with as a STEM student of color. Through MESA, both his grades and his confidence increased. “I wanted a profession where I could gain respect and economic security, a career in a STEM field can help me achieve that. It’s important for underrepresented people to have those positions of power.”–Derek Ferguson

    The MESA College Prep Program fosters the development and engagement of elementary, middle, and high school students’ pursuit of STEM. This program prepares students to excel in math and science, and become competitively eligible for the most rigorous colleges and universities.

    The MCCP Program cultivates a transformative environment for students to prepare for and advance in STEM fields. This program specifically addresses the effort to increase the number of historically underrepresented community college students who transfer to four-year universities and go on to earn STEM degrees.

    Washington MESA participated in UNESCO International Model United Nations Summer Program. November 12, 2021 | 8:20 am

    August 11th, 2021. Seattle, Wash. Washington MESA recently participated in the annual UNESCO International Model United Nations (IMUN)/STEM Summer program.  UNESCO serves as a space for students around the world to gather to promote peace education, science, culture, and communication through dialogue. 1000 student delegates from over 90 countries met to kick off the 14th…
