Derek Ferguson
Derek Ferguson is enrolled in the Nursing Program at Clark College. Derek found a strong sense of community he felt he could identify with as a STEM student of color. Through MESA, both his grades and his confidence increased. “I wanted a profession where I could gain respect and economic security, a career in a STEM field can help me achieve that. The MESA College Prep Program fosters the development and engagement of elementary, middle, and high school students’ pursuit of STEM. This program prepares students to excel in math and science, and become competitively eligible for the most rigorous colleges and universities.
The MCCP Program cultivates a transformative environment for students to prepare for and advance in STEM fields. This program specifically addresses the effort to increase the number of historically underrepresented community college students who transfer to four-year universities and go on to earn STEM degrees.
