Cristina Beltrán, Associate Professor of Social and Cultural Analysis at New York University, will deliver the WISIR Distinguished Lecture for Autumn Quarter on Monday, October 17, from 12:00-1:30 p.m. in the Petersen Room in Allen Library (Room 485). The title of her lecture is “When Passion Trumps: The Latino Vote in 2016 and the Republican Melodrama of Loss.”
Beltrán is the author of The Trouble with Unity: Latino Politics and the Creation of Identity (Oxford University Press, 2010), winner of the 2011 Ralph Bunche Award from the American Political Science Association, the 2011 Best Book Award from the Race, Ethnicity, and Politics Section of the American Political Science Association, and the 2012 Casas de la Américas Award for the Best Book in Latino Studies in the United States. She is currently completing two new books: Uncertain Identities: Aesthetics, Affect, and the Shifting Politics of Race and The Right Kind of Difference: Latinos, Republicans, and the Pleasures of Diversity.
