The Washington Institute for the Study of Inequality and Race (WISIR) awarded $5000 in research grants to four UW graduate students and one UW undergraduate in its spring grant competition. The generous funding of President Ana Mari Cauce’s Race and Equity Initiative made these grants possible.
The five recipients represent a range of disciplines, study various countries and regions of the world, and focus on WISIR’s core themes of social, economic, and political inequality along the lines of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and class. Research funds will be used for a variety of purposes including fieldwork, data collection, and archival work.

Chelsea Moore, Ph.D. Student, Department of Political Science, “True Romance: American Political Development and the Pervert”
Hannah Fumiko Russ, Undergraduate Student, Department of History, “A Complete Analysis of the U.S. Government’s 1942-43 Mixed Marriage Policy”
The selection committee was chaired by WISIR’s Field Director for Latino Politics and Immigration, Sophia Jordán Wallace (Political Science), and also included WISIR Field Director for History and Political Development Megan Francis (Political Science) and WISIR Advisory Committee Members Ralina Joseph (Communications) and Moon-Ho Jung (History).
Another call for research grant proposals will be circulated this fall. We encourage UW undergraduate and graduate students with relevant research interests to apply.
