Nash Endowed Chair in U.S. History at the University of California, Los Angeles will deliver a Sawyer Seminar Lecture and the Katz Distinguished Lecture in Humanities on Tuesday, November 7, at 7pm in Kane Hall Room 210. The title of the lecture will be &#8220;What is Racial Capitalism and Why Does It Matter?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kelley is\u00a0Distinguished Professor and Gary B. Nash Endowed Chair in U.S. History at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is author of\u00a0<em>Africa Speaks, America Answers!: Modern Jazz in Revolutionary Times<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em>(Harvard University Press, 2012),\u00a0\u00a0<em>Freedom Dreams: the Black Radical Imagination<\/em>\u00a0(Beacon Press, 2002),<em>\u00a0<\/em> <em>Race Rebels: Culture, Politics and the Black Working Class\u00a0<\/em>(Free Press, 1994), and\u00a0<em>Hammer and Hoe: Alabama Communists During the Great Depression<\/em> (University of North Carolina Press, 1990), among others. His articles have appeared in\u00a0<em>Journal of American History, American Historical Review, Black Music Research Journal<\/em>, and<em> African Studies<\/em> Review.
