Childcare financial assistance for graduate students

Good news for graduate students with children, you can receive financial aid for childcare.  See below for more information.

Deadline TOMORROW for  Childcare Assistance Program Application

UAW Local 4121 has negotiated a new benefit with the University as part of the 2011/12 collective bargaining agreement that provides childcare assistance for Academic Student Employees (ASEs) who do not receive funds from the Childcare Assistance Program (CAP).  Under this program ASEs may receive up to $600 per quarter of assistance to offset eligible childcare expenses.  A maximum of $25,000 will be distributed to support ASE awards during the 2011-12 academic year.
For the 2011/12 year, the ASE childcare program will be administered by the Student Parent Resource Center.  Any ASE who has not already applied for CAP will need to submit an application.  Any current Academic Student Employee who has already applied for CAP will be automatically considered for assistance for eligible childcare expenses.

IF YOU ARE A PARENT WITH A CURRENT ASE APPOINTMENT, AND WISH TO APPLY FOR THIS BENEFIT, YOU MUST SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR THE CHILDCARE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM AS WELL AS A COMPLETED FAFSA by TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2011.

If, pursuant to this application, you are given a childcare assistance award, you will not be considered for the ASE benefit.  If you have not been given an award, your application will be automatically considered for the ASE benefit.  UW will automatically disburse to ASEs as many awards as are available, up to the maximum of $25,000 for the 2011-12 academic year.

Please contact UAW Local 4121 with any questions about this exciting new program.  If you have specific questions about your application please contact Diana Herrmann at the Student Parent Resource Center stuparrc@uw.edu or telephone 206-543-1041.
