STATUS: Part-time, 25 hours per week
HOURLY RATE: $20/hr

POSITION SUMMARY

The Frye Art Museum is seeking a flexible and detail-oriented team player to join the Education team. Working closely with the Education team, the Digital Programs Assistant supports the management of digital education content and helps to produce virtual education programs for a wide range of audiences. The primary functions of the position include managing A/V needs for virtual education programs, helping to produce and edit engaging content for digital platforms, managing ticketing and registration for virtual programs, and other tasks as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

DIGITAL MEDIA AND VIRTUAL PROGRAMS (50%)

  • Support Education team in designing, producing, editing, and implementing digital content and live, recorded, or interactive virtual programs.
  • Lead iterative improvement of digital content in collaboration with Education and Communications teams.
  • Ensure a consistent, mobile-friendly look and feel to all digital education content and style using Adobe Creative Cloud. Facilitate the publishing of content, including images, video, audio, PDFs, and more, to the Frye’s blog and/or website.
  • Work with web-based multimedia formats, including streaming audio/video via Zoom and Microsoft Teams, and manage the operations of all digital and live-streaming programs via Zoom and/or Microsoft Teams, including audio and video archives.
  • Identify enhancements and plan future improvements to user experience and/or internal workflow.
  • Troubleshoot digital education content and programs, links, navigation, and registration pages to ensure reliability of experience for visitors and make corrections as required.
  • Conduct audience research and evaluate the effectiveness of web and digital media efforts through website analytics, user surveys, usability studies, usage metrics, and other research tools.
  • Ensure accessibility for virtual programs and digital content where possible.

DATABASE AND TICKETING (40%)

    • Manage all ticketing and reservations for all Education programs via online, mail, and phone orders; generate receipts/send confirmation emails and information to program participants. Issue refunds. Troubleshoot errors in purchasing and processing.
    • Serve as the primary Box Office contact for Education by supervising the ticketing process remotely.
    • Collaborate with the Database Administrator to maintain email lists for education and arts engagement programs and maintain lists for outreach.
    • Work with Communications Department to build events on e-commerce pages and capture web-based generated responses.
    • Serve as a back-up to create reports, export mailing lists, and provide queries from Altru database.

 

OTHER DIGITAL (10%)

    • Contribute to vision, strategy, and direction for digital media to impact and improve education programs at the museum.
    • Identify opportunities where digital media can advance organizational objectives and recommend training and support to utilize its full potential.
    • Optimize the use of Zoom and Microsoft Teams for improved performance by refining infrastructure.
    • Apply best practices for accessibility, usability, and agility of digital content and virtual programs.
    • Collaborate with Communications Associate to: manage content, increase efficiency, and automate publishing on social media channels; help capture visitor posts across networks to gauge community input and response to Frye exhibitions and programs; research and test existing and emerging digital channels to expand the Museum’s reach.

 

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

    • Significant professional experience in digital design, video production, and ticketing and registration processes.
    • Advanced-level user of Adobe Creative Cloud, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams.
    • Basic HTML; experience with MailChimp, and Squarespace is helpful.
    • Familiarity with relational database management systems, and Blackbaud products (Altru) is helpful.
    • Experience with digital accessibility is helpful.
    • A self-starter with the ability to operate with purpose, urgency, and accuracy both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment with concurrent deadlines and rapidly changing priorities.
    • Exceptional time management, project management, and excellent organizational skills.
    • Detail-oriented with ability to prioritize, manage, and multitask; ability to coordinate complex schedules and analyze and solve problems.
    • Excellent team player with abilities to motivate and work cooperatively and effectively with Museum staff, as well as work well independently.
    • Professional demeanor and ability to interact with all levels within the organization and external vendors. Ability to exhibit discretion and handle confidential information appropriately.
    • Skilled in working independently with details, with ability to understand and clearly communicate the big picture to various groups.
    • Availability on select weeknights and weekends for programs, as needed.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Experience in museum or nonprofit setting a plus.
    • Fluency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
    • Strong presentation skills and confidence in serving as a spokesperson for an organization.
    • Willingness to undergo a criminal background and employment reference check.

REMOTE WORKING CONDITIONS

Temporary telework arrangements are in place during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some or all of the work performed will be off-site such as in the home or in a space near the home. Equipment may be owned and maintained by the employee or the Museum. Communications may be by email, mobile phone, internet video, electronic messaging, or other as technology allows.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Sitting/Standing/Walking: Approximately 90% of time is spent seated while working at a desk. Balance of time (approximately 10%) is spent standing or moving around the work area. Ability to stand for extended periods of time when assisting at Museum events.
    • Speaking/Hearing: Clear diction and acute hearing are necessary for effective communication with donors, members, the public, and co-workers.
    • Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling: The ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds is necessary for moving material and equipment for events.
    • Vision: Corrected vision close to 20/20 is necessary to effectively use the computer screens.
    • Stooping/Kneeling: The ability to stoop and kneel is necessary for accessing files.
    • Reaching/Handling: Good manual dexterity is necessary for computer keyboard use and for retrieving and working with appropriate paperwork, equipment, and supplies.
