The Lisa and Jerry O’Brien Curatorial Fellowship 2023-24
The Lisa and Jerry O’Brien Curatorial Fellowship at the Weisman Art Museum, University of Minnesota is offered to qualified persons wishing to enter the art museum field.
Goals
To provide intensive practical training for emerging professionals who are considering entering the museum field;
To provide highly competent assistance for projects at the Weisman, particularly in the curatorial area;
To provide incentive to enter the museum field.
Duties
Fellowship recipient will work full time on a twelve-month appointment starting September 2023 at the Weisman Art Museum. The Senior Curator, who supervises this position, will determine exact projects and duties.
Award
The fellowship will award (pending funding) one candidate a $35,000 stipend for a twelve-month, full-time appointment.
Eligibility
Candidates will have recently completed a B.A. or B.F.A. Majors in art history, art, cultural studies, American studies, or related fields are preferred.
Competitive candidates will have a strong knowledge of art history with emphasis on the twentieth and twenty-first-centuries, particularly American art. Excellent research and writing skills required. Excellent oral communication needed and ability to work collaboratively as well as to work independently on research.
Candidates who are strongly considering curatorial work as a profession are preferred. Knowledge of museum practices or previous work, volunteer experience, or internships in art museums not required but a plus.
