2026 SHIFT WINDOW GALLERY — DIVERSITY GRANT APPLICATION
Shift Gallery members recognize that art is a creative pursuit limited only by one’s imagination. As a collective we are dedicated to showcasing narratives from a diverse population, particularly BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) and underrepresented voices in the Seattle Area. We are offering a $500 grant to a promising BIPOC visual artist for the opportunity to display their work in our window gallery during the month of August 2026.
The $500 grant is to be used by the BIPOC artist, 18 years or older, for advancing their art practice. The artist may either create a new project, promote an existing project, or feature a recently completed project. The grantee must be available to exhibit their work in August. In addition, the artist is expected to attend First Thursday art walk in August (8/6/26) and host an artist talk or participate in a panel discussion to be coordinated with Shift in advance. The dimensions of the Shift Window Gallery space where the art will be displayed are approximately 85” (H) x 101” (W) x 43” (D).
To apply for the grant, please provide the following information to info@shiftgallery.org by Friday, April 3, 2026, and please indicate 2026 Shift Window Grant – Diversity Application in the subject line. The successful applicant must be 18 years of age or older and must be available during August 2026 to exhibit.
The required application information is below:
1) A document (Word, PDF, etc), with the following information
File name: Last Name__First Name__
- Address, email, phone, website, Instagram handle
- BIPOC category to which you belong
- Your Art Bio/Resume and list of the exhibitions or opportunities to date, if any, that you have participated in
- Written statement of no more than 250 words addressing what inspires you to create art and how your identity influences your artmaking
2) Art Images
File name: Last Name__ First Name__Title __Medium__ Dimensions__Year__
- Sample of five (5) images of your art that represent your best work in jpeg format
- Image list detailing: Artist Name, Title, Medium, Dimensions, Year
