Frye Art Museum Docent

Become a gallery guide and get involved behind the scenes at the Frye Art Museum.  Gallery guides give tours to K-12 classes, university students, and the general public.  The Frye is looking for applicants to start in September 2016.

Gallery guides commit to one year of service and lead at least two tours each month. School tours are offered Tuesday-Thursday from 10 am to 12 pm. Public tours are offered Wednesday-Sunday at 1 pm. Private tours are offered from 2 to 3 pm.  Public guides are expected to stay from 1 to 3 pm if a private tour is scheduled.

Prior to leading tours, guides will attend a week-long training, scheduled for September 12-16.  Guides will learn about the Frye’s collection and exhibitions as well as discover best practices to engage visitors in looking at and discussing works of art.  Attendance at this week-long training is mandatory to participate in the gallery guide program. Monthly trainings also give opportunity for growth and learning.  Guides should be available 10 am-12 pm on the third Friday of each month to attend monthly trainings.

As a gallery guide, you will receive exclusive access to the Frye collections and special exhibitions.  All Frye volunteers receive a 15% discount in the Museum Store and Café, as well as a complimentary coffee or tea during their shift.  Museum membership, including discounts on education programs and events, is also included as part of your volunteer benefits.  An annual reception is held to celebrate the work of all Frye volunteers.

To apply, go to: http://fryemuseum.org/gallery_guide_application/ and submit your application.  After completing the online form, you will be prompted to send your current resume.  Applications will be accepted through June 30.
