| Cory Meals |
I’m pleased to announce that Husky Band Graduate Assistant Director Cory Meals has accepted his first collegiate teaching position at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia. Cory has been a doctoral teaching assistant with the HMB since arriving here with his wife, Sarah, in 2012, following the completion of his master’s degree at the University of Houston.
Cory will be leaving in July to begin his duties as the assistant director of bands and assistant professor of instrumental music education. As part of his many responsibilities, he will also be working with the Marching Owls of KSU!
About his experiences here at UW, Cory said: I am extremely grateful to the Husky Band for three wonderful years of collaboration and an exceedingly large number of happy memories. The members of the band, as well as my colleagues on the teaching staff, have taught me far more than I can express in a few short sentences -- both about the HMB, but also about teaching and music! Atop all of this, the guidance and support of Dr. McDavid has been second to none, and a huge part of preparing me for the next step in my career.
While moving to the South will certainly allow me to indulge in many figures of speech alien to the Pacific Northwest (be glad we never even touched on "fixin' to"), Sarah and I both will miss the region and “all y’all” who have made our time here so much fun. Game day at Kennesaw will be a blast, certainly, but know that I will always hold those Saturdays in Husky Stadium dear to my heart.
There is no way to overstate my thankfulness to each person here at UW who I interacted with—you really have made such a difference in my life and my development as a teacher and a person. Believe me when I say that a little piece of my experiences with you will be carried with me in all my roles at Kennesaw State.

Cory has done a tremendous job here at the UW, working with both the athletic bands and with the concert ensembles. He and his wife Sarah will be missed enormously and all members of the HMB family wish him much success as he begins this next chapter in his educational career. |
