With longtime Husky Band drumline instructor Nick Molenda stepping down to pursue heightened opportunities with his rock band, I am thrilled that our former assistant drumline instructor, Steve Henry, has agreed to become our new head instructor! Steve was a member of the HMB drumline from 2004 to 2008, after which he worked with the collegiate drumlines of Florida Atlantic and Florida International Universities. After moving back to Seattle, in addition to serving on the HMB staff, Steve has been working with local high school marching percussion as well as the drumline of the Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps.

I am also pleased to announce that Doug Morin will be joining the ranks of the HMB staff as the band’s newest graduate teaching assistant. Doug hails from Indiana and has 12 years’ experience teaching in the public schools of North Carolina. He received his bachelor’s degree from the renowned Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and has recently completed his master’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, where he worked with the marching band as well as the concert bands. While here at the UW, Doug will be pursuing a doctorate in conducting. He and his wife, Renee, are excited to be coming to the UW. He states: "I am thrilled to join the Husky Band program! The reputation of the ensembles and faculty is fantastic. Coming to Seattle to be part of that tradition is the opportunity of a lifetime."

Doug will be filling the vacancy created by the graduation of former Husky Band graduate assistant, Cory Meals, who is headed for his first faculty position at Kennesaw State University.

Lastly, I am thrilled to announce the addition of Craig Winter to the HMB staff as assistant drumline instructor, taking over for Steve Henry. Craig graduated from Newport High School in 1999 and has been a lifelong Husky fan. An alum of Arizona State University, he was a member of their renowned drumline. Since returning to the Seattle area, Craig has been playing with the Seattle Seahawks Blue Thunder Drumline as well as instructing a number of area high school drumlines. He is also currently serving as a percussion instructor for the Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps.
