Requirements
Students pursuing this option must

take 3 of the following 4 courses:
STAT 509,
Introduction to Mathematical Statistics
CSE 546 or STAT 535, Machine Learning
CSE 544, Principles of Database Management
CSE 512, Data Visualization
- register for four quarters in the weekly eScience eScience Community Seminar (CHEM E 599)
For a more advanced course sequence, students may substitute STAT 512 (Statistical Inference) for STAT 509. In that case, it is recommended that students also take STAT 513, the second course in the STAT 512-513 sequence.
Option requirements are in addition to the Applied Mathematics degree requirements.
An Advanced Data Science course can be replaced by an equivalent or more advanced course in the same area UPON APPROVAL. A student must submit an email petition to the Steering Committee (bigdata-igert-steering (at) cs (dot) washington (dot) edu) to perform such a substitution. The Steering Committee may request input from the student's Faculty Advisor and the primary department's Graduate Program Advisor before making a decision.
