How to Use this Course?

Welcome to the International Informatics course for Asia Pacific Cooperation (APEC)!

The following are some of the frequently asked questions about this course:

1. Who and how can we use this course?

Anyone who seeks more information in the Informatics arena can use this course as a teaching tool. Since this was a post-graduate course, it is ideal to have some background in Informatics

This teaching tool was part of the annual course of our formal International course in Informatics, and can be used as teaching material for the APEC partners.

2. What skill sets do I need to get the most from this course?

It will be helpful but not mandatory if you have some of the following skills or experience in:

  • appropriate application of telnet,

  • use a spreadsheet to collect, organize and analyze data,

  • information management,

  • basic knowledge of GIS/GPS,

  • simple search and multi-search management,

This course cover the following Informatics areas:

  • Introduction to Informatics,

  • Information collection and Information access,

  • Information presentation,

  • Information use and Information management.

4. What are the course strategies?

The course was modified to be entirely Web-based for asynchronous learning and open to APEC countries. The overall design will be case- or problem-based, with emphasis on real life problems and examples.

5. What if I need assistance?

The main page and additional course pages are very friendly. Other support services will be available to all the participants by email. Use the bottom line and click with the mouse in "Contact Us". Describe in the email what problem to you have for our best assistance.

6. How many credits I will receive for this course?

This is a non-credit course in the online version and a three-credit course in the onsite version.  Our intent is to share our experiences, success and fails with other APEC's members. We hope that in the near future other members will have the same initiative  and  we will  share  these  teaching  material  to understand different realities and work together in the network.
