Fellows will participate in a 2-year multidisciplinary research and educational experience that will prepare them to understand the environmental and societal implications of their Ph.D. dissertation research. Student responsibilities during the 2-year fellowship period and beyond include:

• Successful completion of all  IGERT curriculum elements, including technical and multicultural coursework culminating in a major multidisciplinary design project that tackles an energy, resource, and sustainability issue identified by one of our Native American partner communities.
• Fellows are given guidance by the IGERT team to plan and then develop a dissertation chapter that uses tools from the IGERT courses and project work to assess the life cycle environmental and societal context of their dissertation research.
• Fellows participate in program assessment, both during and after the fellowship period
