C&C to become UW Technology
Vice President Ron Johnson
announced December 10 that Computing & Communications will change its name to UW Technology in January, reflecting a fundamental shift in how we engage the community as partners and collaborators.
C&C's 2007 Customer Satisfaction Survey
In February 2007, C&C asked a random sample of faculty, staff, and
students to participate in an online customer satisfaction survey. Read

C&C's Strategic Plan
C&C's strategic plan articulates new vision, mission, and values that
emphasize partnership and collaboration with the university
community to create technology solutions that advance the work of the university and further its mission. The strategic plan reflects input from more
than 160 people across the university. It is an organizational
development plan, focusing on the internal changes necessary for C&C to
become more responsive, collaborative, and customer-driven.
Internal restructuring and other efforts have already begun to position
C&C to move ahead on the key priority areas identified in the strategic
plan. These include customer service, communications, reliable and
responsive systems, and business management.
Computing and Communications Updates
To improve communications and strengthen connections
with academic units, C&C sends regular email
updates on important UW information technology news to
UW deans and others,
which also are published on this Web site.
These updates are one source of information about technical
directions C&C and the UW are considering,
projects that are are underway,
and recent accomplishments.
Technology Advisory Committees
In response to discussions with the Board of Deans, UW administrators, and
regents, the UW president has appointed three
Technology Advisory Committees (U-TAC, A-TAC, and I-MAC)
to achieve better cooperation, communication, and
coordination on university-wide technology issues, strategies, and policies.
C&C works with the committees as they focus on UW information technology
strategies, services, functions, and support.
Strategic Choices for Administrative Computing
Strategic Choices for Administrative Computing
analyzes the risks and benefits of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
and non-ERP approaches based on research studies and experiences at the
UW and peer institutions. It recommends that the university continue with
the current non-ERP approach and make the incremental investments necessary
to maintain the ongoing viability of the UW's legacy systems.
UW Information Services Strategy
The DRAFT
UW Information Services Strategy
(ISS) report outlines a vision and proposed
approach for creating the technical foundation
that will enable the UW to realize the potential
of information technology, including the ability
to:
-
Provide better resources and services to
constituents
-
Support next-generation research and learning
-
Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of
faculty and staff
-
Reach constituents in new and powerful ways
The DRAFT UW Information Services
Strategy primarily covers technical directions for
C&C units providing information services
(Information Services, IT Infrastructure).
