Mission

In serving the people of Washington state and the global community, the Canadian Studies Program and center seek, through their teaching, research, artistic practice and outreach to be a community of learning, knowledge and accomplishment judged to be excellent when measured against the highest international standards.

Goals
1. offer our undergraduate students a program that is innovative, challenging and appropriate for students whose concerns will lie largely in the twenty-first century;
2. continue with the development and enhancement of our undergraduate program; 3. develop a graduate program;
4. promote research, original scholarship and artistic activity judged to be excellent by the highest international standards;
5. foster collaborative research within the university and with other institutions
6. collaborate with other post-secondary institutions and with public and private
bodies to ensure that we are providing relevant and responsive programs that draw on our academic strengths;
7. develop, in light of the changing demographic profile of our students, innovative ways to make the program more accessible, notably for minority groups who are presently under- represented in our student body;
8. strive to relate our program to the economic, environmental, professional and social challenges occurring beyond our campus by further development of internship programs and cooperative education;
9. serve the local and wider community by providing programs of continuing education that respond to the needs among our population for life long learning.
