CERSE Welcomes Daniel Mackin Freeman, Stephanie Breen, and Naomi Ramirez Alvarado!
We are excited to welcome Daniel’s, Stephanie’s, and Naomi’s perspectives and skills to the CERSE team!
Daniel is one of CERSE’s research scientists, joining the team in January. His broad research interests are STEM and art education, inequality, social class, and race and ethnicity. Daniel’s current research as a PhD candidate at Portland State University zones in on how the structure of schools and curriculum perpetuates social class and racial inequalities.
Stephanie is also a research scientist at CERSE, starting in March. Stephanie is also a PhD candidate at the University of Maryland and scholar-practitioner dedicated to educational issues of access, inclusion, and equity for marginalized communities. Her research interests include access and equity in higher education, mentoring relationships, faculty diversity and retention, culture, and institutional change.
Naomi joined CERSE as an undergraduate research assistant this past March. She is a third-year student at the University of Washington double majoring in Sociology and Education, Communities, & Organizations. Naomi studies how the American education system perpetuates social inequalities and community–based practices for equity and educational reform.
