Metal Matrix Composites

CIMS has been working on metal matrix composites over the last twenty years with an aim of designing stronger, tougher, and more durable MMC components. An example of a recent application of MMC is from a high performance end tire rims which are made of ceramic partical/alminum MMC. This MMC rim has longer fatigue life under repeated friction at braking, and provided lighter tire weight. Analytical and experimental studies on its fatigue life under thermomechanical loading is well-documented in the following papers: [coming soon]
