Simpson's Rule for Additive Method of Volume Determination

Simpson's Rule LV volume Left: RAO view of the LVgram at end diastole, with manually-traced endocardial outline and calculated axial length L subdivided into segments dLi. Right: Representation of LV volume as the summed volumes of graduated disks with diameter Di and thickness dLi. The Riemann sum of the disk volumes is then processed according to Simpson's rule, allowing for a smooth (not stepped) endocardial curvature.
