The Center
for Teaching, Learning & Technology (CTLT) opened in spring 1996
as part of a UWired effort to support the integration of technology,
information resources, and instruction, primarily through one-on-one
consulting and workshops. In 1999, CTLT staff launched the Catalyst
Initiative to provide Web-based, round-the-clock support for instructors
who could not attend workshops or stop in for consultations. Drop-in
consulting remains a staple of the Catalyst Initiative, with the CTLT
serving as a "research, development, and demonstration" space where
faculty can experiment with the latest instructional technologies. |
- Providing access: The CTLT lab provides access
to fifteen computer terminals, a wide variety of software, and expert
consulting by the CTLT staff.
- Promoting fluency:
By working one-on-one with CTLT staff, clients develop fluency with
information and information technology here in the lab.
- Fostering innovation: One-on-one consulting
in the CTLT allows instructors who have an idea as to how to integrate
technology into their teaching to work with experienced staff members
to translate their idea into reality. This partnership between CTLT
staff and instructors is instrumental in fostering innovation in teaching
with technology at the UW.
