General Information
The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology (CTLT) was founded
in 1996 to provide assistance to University of Washington campus educators
(faculty, staff, librarians, and teaching assistants) who want to
integrate technology into their teaching. All services are free for
any UW affiliated educator who is using technology for instructional
purposes. The CTLT management reserves the right to judge whether
or not a client's activities are for instructional purposes. Instructional
purposes include (but are not limited to):
- Creating
materials that will be used in a course listed in the UW Time
Schedule.
- Creating
materials that will be used for instruction by a UW organization
or department.
Consulting
Guidelines
Instructors can meet with CTLT consultants on a variety of topics
related to teaching with technology. Consultants will answer questions
about working in the UW computing environment and using supported
software. Consultants will not create materials or do work
for the instructor. Consultants serve purely as advisors, and cannot
be "reserved" by instructors or retained for a long-term project.
Equipment
Use
Except for digital cameras and digital video cameras, equipment
cannot be reserved in advance and is available on a first-come first-served
basis only. Cameras can be checked out for a maximum of two consecutive
days and can only be retained for longer periods with the written
approval of the CTLT management. Clients may check out only one
camera at a time. Cameras checked out on Thursday must be returned
by 5:00 pm the next day (Friday). Cameras checked out on Friday
may be kept for the weekend and must be returned on the next UW
school day (usually Monday) by 5:00pm. Use of cameras for non-instructional
purposes (see above) or failure to return cameras on time may result
in a loss of borrowing privileges. The CTLT staff reserves the right
to refuse to lend equipment to clients who violate CTLT policies
or otherwise abuse CTLT resources.
Restricted
Activities
The following activities are not allowed in the CTLT:
- Using
CTLT resources for personal use. This includes but is not limited
to: printing personal email, Web browsing that is not related
to instruction, or the use of hardware and software to develop
materials for personal use.
- Using
CTLT resources for activities related to academic research (dissertations,
academic publications, class papers, etc.) except where these
materials are being developed for instructional purposes
- Activities
that disrupt the working environment for others in the Center.
This includes but is not limited to holding meetings with students,
monopolizing CTLT staff or equipment, or listening to music or
sounds without headphones.
- Use
of CTLT resources by anyone other than those defined as "campus
educators" above. UW students may not use the facilities except
where those students are also instructors at the University of
Washington.
- The
CTLT also adheres to the University of Washington rules for computer
use and rules for Washington state employees using state resources.
For more information, see:
http://www.washington.edu/computing/rules/
Failure
to comply with these rules will result in a warning. Repeat violations
may result in the violator being banned from the CTLT.
