Topic:
Introduction to Emerging Infections
Presenter:
Dr. Ann Marie Kimball
OVERVIEW
New infections are emerging over the entire expanse of the globe. It’s not confined at all. Even a seemingly isolated area like the Arctic Research Center in Alaska is reporting a lot of streptococcal resistance.
Wherever you find people, you will find the emergence of infections. The risk of emergence is not confined to poor countries. Japan, one of the most affluent economies in the world, has suffered an E. coli outbreak. There are global pandemics of HIV, cholera and, of course, annual outbreaks of influenza. This program introduces some of the general concepts associated with the "Factors of Emergence"
