Theater director, scholar, teacher and theorist
Herbert Blau, one of American theater's most
original, articulate thinkers, passed away May 3.
Co-founder of the legendary San Francisco Actor's Workshop (1952-65), Blau introduced American audiences to playwrights of the European avant-garde, including Brecht, Beckett, Genet, and Pinter.
His intellectual generosity, passion and energy
will be missed by all who knew him.
