2000 Conference: Proceedings

The Re-envisioning the Ph.D. Advisory Board designed an innovative and highly interactive conference. By invitation only, it was limited to 200 registrants to ensure productive discussions. The conference was designed so that each session built on the previous one, culminating in recommended action steps. Participants focused on four important issues:

  • What is the "essence" of doctoral education?
  • What sectors of society will require Ph.D.s in the future; how will that impact professional options for Ph.D.s?
  • Can we restructure doctoral education to attract more women and underrepresented minority students?
  • Who are tomorrow's graduate students? How are the economics of, and policies governing, graduate education likely to change?

The full Conference Program is available in PDF format. You will need Acrobat Reader software to view the PDF file. Acrobat Reader is available at no cost from Adobe. After downloading and installing the Acrobat Reader software you should be able to view and print the PDF file.
