The Controlled Exposure Laboratory is designed to create controlled exposures to relevant ambient and occupational particulate air pollutants. Dr. Joel Kaufman is the director.

The laboratory has developed an exposure system for creating diesel exhaust particle exposures for human and animal studies. By generating fresh diesel exhaust and carefully diluting and aging the mixture to mimic the aerosol properties of real-world environments, the laboratory can test hypotheses related to urban and workplace air pollution.

The laboratory uses state-of-the-art measures of exposure and physiological effects. Current experiments study respiratory and cardiovascular responses to diesel exposures.
