GRECC Seattle and American Lake

The VAPSHCS GRECC provides a multitude of educational and training opportunities for VA and non-VA health care professionals at the local, regional, and national levels. Local educational programs include weekly seminars on research and clinical topics, journal clubs, and associated Fellowship and Traineeships in geriatrics. Through it’s partnership with the University of Washington School of Medicine, the VAPSHCS GRECC has been highly successful in recruiting exceptional trainees in geriatrics. At the regional level, the VAPSHCS GRECC provides a monthly videoconferencing series that is broadcast to VA sites in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Educational activities extend to the national level via the Forum on Aging, the national GRECC newsletter that is published by the Seattle GRECC. The Forum is distributed to over 8,000 readers, from small community clinics to congress. The VAPSHCS GRECC is also active in conference sponsorship, with an annual caregiver’s conference and other regional meetings. Core staff and other GRECC faculty are highly active in additional educational endeavors, with teaching duties and educational outreach activities within the VA system and community at large.
