Drum Major Instructors
Dr. Brad McDavid
Dr. Brad McDavid is entering his 21st year as Director of Athletic Bands at the University of Washington and is the
founder and coordinator of the HUSKY BAND DRUM MAJOR/DRUMLINE ACADEMY. During his tenure at the UW, McDavid has overseen
the band's growth from 160 to it's current size of 240 winds and percussion. In addition to coordinating one of the nation's
most comprehensive collegiate athletic band programs, McDavid is also in demand as a marching and concert band adjudicator and
clinician, having worked with bands in 17 states as well as Canada, China, and Japan. In 2008, McDavid was honored by being
selected as the lead conductor and head artisitic director of the 1700 member Beijing Olympic Orchestra (marching band).
Currently Dr. McDavid also serves on the selection committees for the John Philip Sousa Foundation's Sudler Trophy, which
recognizes outstanding college marching bands as well as the Sudler Shield which recognizes marching bands of merit on the
public school level. McDavid is also currently co-authoring a series of instructional DVD's published by GIA entitled
the The Marching Band Director's Video Toolbox, highlighting the effective teaching and implementation of both
traditional and contemporary marching techniques.
Dr. Alexander Trevino
Dr. Alexander Trevino is the Director of Athletic Bands and Associate Director of Bands at Old Dominion University. Dr. Trevino
has established the first-ever marching band program at ODU. The band has recently completed its second full season of football
performances and preparing for the 2011-2012 season when ODU officially enters the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The band
began rehearsing in the fall of 2008 and has since performed in exhibition and in public performances throughout the Commonwealth.
Prior to his post at ODU, Dr. Trevino served as Graduate Teaching Assistant with the University of Washington athletic band program in Seattle, Washington from 2004 to 2007. Dr. Trevino also directed the Husky Volleyball Band in 2005, which accompanied the Washington Volleyball Team to the NCAA Finals in San Antonio, Texas, where the Huskies earned a National Championship victory over Nebraska.
Prior to his time at The University of Washington, Dr. Trevino worked as a Graduate Assistant with the University of Tennessee "Pride of the Southland" Marching Band. Serving in that capacity from 2002 through 2004, he assisted in the teaching of marching drill and music performance, and in 2004 introduced a maneuver known as "The Zipper T" that has since become a highlight of the Tennessee Pregame show.
Dr. Trevino holds a PhD. in Music Education from the University of Washington and a Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting from The University of Tennessee. He also holds the Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
Marcus J. Pimpleton
Marcus Pimpleton is in his ninth year as the director of bands at Denny International Middle School and second year as band director
at Chief Sealth International High School. Prior to the start of his teaching career, Pimpleton served three years as drum major of the
famed University of Washington Husky Marching Band where his personal highlights included leading the band in the 2001 Rose Parade and in
performances in the People's Republic of China. Since 2005, Pimpleton has also served as director of the Seattle Schools All-City Marching
Band where he oversees the instruction and development of the band's five drum majors. Currently Pimpleton is also Director of Athletic Bands
at Seattle University where he coordinates the Redhawks Pep Band . Mr. Pimpleton's bands have been featured in performances throughout the
Puget Sound region and into British Columbia, as well as on performance tours to California, Hawaii, Washington, D.C., and New York.
Dan McDonald
Dan McDonald is a second year Doctor of Musical Arts student in instrumental conducting with Timothy Salzman and serves as a
Graduate Assistant Director for the Husky Marching Band. Dan earned both a B.A. in Music (Saxophone) and M.M. in Conducting (Instrumental)
from the University of Connecticut where he studied with Jeffrey Renshaw, David Mills, Michelle Holt and Marvin McNeill. Prior to his graduate
work, Dan taught grade 4-8 band and lessons in Ashford, CT and was Director of Instrumental Music at The Norwich Free Academy in Norwich, CT.
At NFA, he directed the award-winning Concert Band, Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Chamber Ensembles, Pep Band, and the "Wildcat"
Marching Band. At UConn, Dan was assistant conductor for the Symphonic Band and Concert Band, as well as assisted in undergraduate conducting.
He was a graduate assistant for the UConn Athletic Bands who performed at the 2011 Tostito's Fiesta Bowl and conducted the pep band at the 2011
NCAA Men's Basketball Championship in Houston, TX. Currently, he is an assistant conductor of the University of Washington Wind Ensemble
and conductor of the Campus Band.
His Drum Major experience began as a junior at Barnstable High School (Hyannis, MA). Dan later went on to become a Section Leader and eventual Drum Major of the then 275-member "Pride of Connecticut," University of Connecticut Marching Band. He was instrumental in conducting, teaching and planning for the band's rehearsals and performances
Cory Meals
Cory Meals is a Graduate Assistant Director of the Husky Marching Band and a second year Ph.D. Music Education student studying with
Dr. Steven Morrison, Prof. Timothy Salzman, and Dr. J. Brad McDavid. He holds a B.S. in Music Education from VanderCook College of Music
and a M.M. in Instrumental Wind Conducting from the University of Houston, where he studied with David Bertman and Eddie Green. Prior to graduate
work Cory served as Director of Bands for Waller High School (2006-2010), northwest of Houston, TX. During his tenure there ensembles received
numerous "Superior" ratings and UIL "Sweepstakes" awards, and advanced each year eligible to the prestigious UIL 4A Texas State Marching
Contest (2007, 2009). He previously held instructional positions in Klein ISD (TX), and Keller ISD (TX).
Corys performing career began as a member of the Lake Erie Regiment (1994-1996), graduating to membership in The Rosemont Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps (1997-2001). Following his age-out, he was fortunate enough to serve as a member of the brass instruction team at both the Cavaliers (2002-2006) and Santa Clara Vanguard (2011). During his work with the Cavaliers, Cory was a contributor to the instructional DVD entitled, The Cavaliers Brass: From the Concert Hall to the Football Field, which has been met with critical acclaim. During his time with the corps as both a performer and instructional staff member, the Cavaliers were named Drum Corps International World Champions five times (2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2006) and were the recipient of two (2002, 2006) Jim Ott Awards for "Excellence in Brass Performance".
Cory additionally maintains an active schedule as an adjudicator, visual designer, program consultant, and ensemble clinician across North America. He currently resides in Seattle, WA with his wife, Sarah, and their dog, Norah.
Stephanie Trevino
Stephanie Trevino is a graduate of the University of Washington and served as the 5th female Drum Major of the Husky Marching Band for three
seasons from 2004-2006. Stephanie and her husband Dr. Alexander Trevino live in Norfolk, Virginia where she has developed and coached the Old
Dominion Monarch Marching Band Drum Majors since 2007 from the verybeginning of their marching band program. Stephanie has training in traditional
corps conducting, showmanship and leadership, corps and traditional marching fundamentals, American baton/mace twirling and spinning, and infamous
Husky Band and Ohio State Gray Baton. Stephanie has a degree in Biology and a Masters in Teaching and teaches high school science in Virginia Beach.
Alysa Treber
Alysa Treber served as Drum Major of the Husky Marching Band during the 2007-2009 seasons, and was formerly a member of the piccolo section.
After graduating from UW with a degree in flute performance, Alysa went on to get her master's in flute performance from Michigan State.
She is now back living in Seattle, and enjoys drinking coffee and hiking with her friends.
Mitchell Dumais
Mitchell Dumais is a recent graduate of the University of Washington, having just completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry and Microbiology.
He was a member of Husky Band from 2010 - 2014, and served as a Husky Band Drum Major for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. He was chosen as the "Most Outstanding Senior Bandsmen",
a title voted on by the members of Husky Band. He has been actively involved in music since a young age, and is originally a piano and alto saxophone
player in both concert and jazz ensembles. He was the Drum Major at Central Valley High School for two years, as well as a conductor for the Thunder Drum and Bugle Corps
for two summer tours. Afterwards, he was hired as a Drum Major Tech and Field Tech for local high schools and small Drum Corps in the greater Spokane area, and brings
years of experience and leadership to the position. He has been trained in traditional military baton as well as the performance based gray baton. In addition to
serving as a Husky Band Drum Major, he is also a member of Kappa Kappa Psi, an honorary band service fraternity, and has been involved in numerous other groups in a
leadership capacity. In the next couple of years, he hopes to continue be involved in the musical community through Alumni bands, instruction, and volunteering.
John Aguilar
John Aguilar is entering his third year in the Husky Marching Band, with this fall being his second season as Drum Major. Formerly a member of the drumline,
he marched cymbals and was awarded with the Most Outstanding First-Year Member Award. Currently a sophomore in school, John is majoring in Music Education
and is an active brother of Kappa Kappa Psi, an honorary band service fraternity. Outside of the UW, he is an active advocate for music education around the
Seattle area. During the school year, he served as percussion instructor for the Denny Middle School and Chief Sealth High School drumline/percussion ensembles.
In the summer, he serves as one of the Drum Major Staff for the Seattle All-City Marching Band, which is comprised of high school band members from
the Seattle Public Schools and neighboring cities.
Brian Huynh
Brian Huynh is entering into his sophomore year at the University of Washington and his second year in the Husky Marching Band, with this fall being his first
season as Drum Major. This past year in the band Brian was a member of the Trombone section. Brian is a freshman direct student in the Foster School of Business
and is majoring in Accounting. He is also an active brother of Kappa Kappa Psi, an honorary band service fraternity.He is also active in helping and training
the drum majors at Roosevelt High School.
Drumline Instructors
Nick Molenda
Nick is a 2007 graduate of the University of Washington with a BA/BM in Music Performance (Jazz Studies). While a student at the UW, Nick was a member
of the Husky Band Drumline from 2002-2006. He was also a member of the Div I DCI Seattle Cascades Drumline during the 2005 and 2006 seasons. In 2007
Nick served as a battery tech for Div III DCI Spokane Thunder. Within the past few years, Nick has worked with several local area drumlines at Edmonds, Jackson,
Kamiak, Mariner, Bainbridge, and Cascade High Schools. Nick was also on the percussion staff as a Tenor Technician for World Class DCI Corps, The Cascades
during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Outside of the realm of marching percussion, Nick is very active in music playing and touring drumset for several area
artists/groups including Allen Stone, Discs of Fury, and Vintage Pink. Nick is an artist and clinician for Innovative Percussion and Remo Drumheads.
