UW LEARNING TECHNOLOGIES

Before Your Workshop

We look forward to you joining us at upcoming workshops during the TA conference! Please review the following information prior to attending:

Canvas Sandbox Course

If you have registered for one or more workshops during the TA conference, we will have a sandbox course created for you to test out Canvas functions. If you do not register beforehand, please let the workshop facilitator know as soon as you enter the workshop room that you will need a sandbox created. Otherwise, log in to Canvas and look for a course called 2018 TA Conference Sandbox.

Computer Availability

The workshop rooms have a bank of computers available for you to use as you follow along, but you may wish to bring your own laptop in case the workshop fills up or you are more comfortable on your own computer. UW WiFi is available in Mary Gates Hall for your use.

Pre-Workshop Review

Several of the workshops are flipped, meaning they require review of materials prior to attending. This ensures that the topics covered during the limited in-person workshop time are targeted, focused, and more interactive for you and your colleagues. If you have enrolled or plan to attend any of the workshops listed below, please click on the related link and complete the review prior to the TA conference.

Canvas: Quick Start (approximately 10 minutes)

Canvas: Conquering Assignments & Grading (approximately 10 minutes)

Thank you for participation in pre-workshop review, and we look forward to meeting you in person at the conference!

Flipped Workshops

Flipping the classroom is a concept where students are asked to cover baseline materials on their own outside of class. Class time can then be used to explore the content more deeply and apply it to practical examples like case studies. This allows the instructor to focus more on student-centered active learning actives to engage learners. The instructor becomes a guide and coach to facilitate students own exploration of a topic.

We are asking you to cover content before you attend a workshop in the hopes that this early exposure puts you in a better place to understand the concepts presented. We also hope that you’ll have some time to process the information and come with questions that directly apply to your teaching practice.

Please find your workshop on the sidebar menu. It will lead you to a page with content and guidelines on how long it should take you to cover the materials.

At the end of the page, we ask you to answer a brief survey. We are working to continuously improve this resource and your experience. Your feedback helps us grow and provide you with useful support.
