Diem-Hang Nguyen-Tran

I earned my Bachelor of Sciences degree from the University of Natural Sciences in Hochiminh, Vietnam (now called University of Sciences), with a major in biotechnology in medicine.

I came to the US under the sponsor of the Vietnam Education Foundation fellowship, and now I am a graduate student of the Molecular and Cellular Biology graduate program of the University of Washington.

I have been fascinated with gene therapy since I was in college. Right now I am concentrating on targeted gene correction, in which we will use donor DNA plasmids to correct a mutated gene in the host genome via homologous recombination initiated by a homing endonuclease. I am currently focusing on quantification and mapping off-target DNA breaks when a target endonuclease is used to initiate gene correction.
