Precipitation hardening

Back to Case study
Precipitation hardening Lesson/Tutorial  This is a way to harden and strengthen an alloy.  It is accomplished by performing two different heat treatments on an alloy that result in the growth of extremely small uniform particles of a second phase within the original phase.  The small uniform particles act as barriers for any deformation that is trying to advance through the material, therefore, the metal is stronger than it would be without these barriers.
