Study Information

NSiGHT is a research study conducted through the Center for the Study of Health and Risk Behaviors at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. This study aims to explore young adults’ health and risk behavior. We are interested in recruiting adults between the ages of 18 and 25 with the long-term goal of studying health behavior such as alcohol use and gambling. This is a national study conducted online.

All men and women between the ages of 18 and 25 who currently reside in the United States are invited to participate.

All participants who complete a brief online survey (10 minutes or less) will be entered into a drawing for a $100 Amazon Gift Certificate.

At the end of the brief survey, you may be selected to participate in a longitudinal research study. If you are selected you for this part of the study you will learn more about it and be able to decide if you want to be involved or not. You can complete the first study regardless of your decision to participate in the second part of the study.

There are three steps to participate in this study. The first step involves completing a confidential 5 to 10 minute online survey. We call this Phase 1. This survey includes questions about your personal characteristics (age, gender, etc.), education, opinions about alcohol use and gambling, as well as your own behaviors. You do not have ever engaged in these behaviors to participate. At the end of the brief survey, you will told if you’ve been selected for the longitudinal study, we call this Phase 2.

If you have been selected for Phase 2, the second step involves an email invitation in the coming month as you participate. You will be more information, but basically, you will be asked to complete a longer online survey. Then you will be randomized to either receive some personalized health information or just to answer questionnaires over time with no health personalized health information. Regardless of which group you are assigned to, you will be asked to a complete 3 more survey timed over the course of 6 months. You will receive compensation for completing each survey in the form a Amazon.com gift card.

The final step, if the study is right for you and you would like to participate, is to take a confidential 30-40 minute online survey. This survey includes questions about your basic demographics, Facebook and other social networking site use, recent life experiences, stressors that young adults typically face and strategies for dealing/coping with stress, and other health behaviors (e.g., alcohol and marijuana use, sexual behaviors, etc.).
