Reflexes

Oral-motor and self-feeding skills and behaviors

  • Coordinated suck-swallow-breathe pattern
  • Moving tongue forward and back
  • Moving hand to mouth
  • Expecting feedings at regular intervals

Positioning

Appropriate positioning at this stage can include:

  • Supine, with the head slightly elevated
  • Reclining at an angle of less than 45 degrees

Appropriate foods

  • Breastmilk or infant formula
