Dr. Elena Dobretsova

Elena Dobretsova  – Postdoctoral researcher

Elena Dobretsova received BS degree (2011) in geology and then MS degree (2013) in crystllography and crystal chemistry from Lomonosov Moscow State University after pursuing undergraduate research on the Crystallography and Crystal chemistry department under the supervision of Dr. Elena Borovikova and Dr. Victoria Kurazhkovskaya.  Her work focused on understanding the problem of structure-properties relationship in the rare-earth borates with a structural type of huntite mineral. After being recognized with the Grant of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research for young scientists and the Scholarship of the President of the Russian Federation she pursued a Ph.D. in Physics under the direction of  Dr. Kirill Boldyrev and Prof. Marina Popova at the Institute of Spectroscopy of the Russian Academy of Science, Moscow, Troitsk where her dissertation focused on the synthesis and characterization of inorganic crystals doped by rare-earth ions. Since 2017 Dr. Elena Dobretsova has worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Materials Science & Engineering department at the University of Washington.
