Rachel Gariepy

Rachel Gariepy received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at California Polytechnic State
University in 2019. During her undergraduate career, she conducted research in Dr. Sandra
Ward’s group, synthesizing novel supramolecular amphiphiles and examining their ability to
self-assemble into different molecular architectures based on concentration. She was also an
active member of Cal Poly’s chapter of Alpha Chi Sigma, a co-ed professional chemistry
fraternity. This gave her the opportunity to tutor students in general and organic chemistry
classes, bring scientific outreach to local elementary schools, and connect with many professors
within the department. She is now pursuing a Ph.D in Materials Science and Engineering at UW
in Dr. Peter Pauzauskie’s group, where she is researching materials that undergo laser cooling
and their ability to modulate enzyme turnover rate.
