Accommodations
and Getting around Seattle

If you are driving to Seattle, please refer to this page.

How to get to the conference site/your hotel: If you are flying into Seattle, you are flying into the Seattle-Tacoma or SeaTac Airport (abreviated as SEA). It takes about 30 minutes by taxi/car to get to the University District, where SALT 13 takes place (the route:  on the left map indicates Downtown Seattle). All the hotels listed here are located there as well. When making reservations at your hotel, ask for specific directions from the airport to the hotel. You have several options for your ground transportation. (Note: Gray Line airport shuttle to Downtown Seattle only goes to downtown hotels.)

1. Taxis from SeaTac airport cost more than $40.00.

2. S&A Town car (Limousine) Service runs from SeaTac to any of the hotels listed below for $28.00 for the first two passengers and $5.00 for each additional passenger, return trips are the same price.

3. Shuttle Express has two prices depending on which hotel you are staying at: for the first passenger, the fare is $23.50 or $16.50 depending upon the hotel and $10.00 for each additional passenger in your party. See below for each hotel. (It pays to make friends at the airport and hotel.) You can find Shuttle Express's check-in desk behind the Sea-Tac Ground Transportation Information Booth, located in the center of the 3rd floor of the airport parking garage. Be sure to specify where you want to go and that you want the hotel rate. Because others may be picked up or dropped off at other hotels, there is no telling how long the ride takes. It is advisable to check with your hotel in advance for more details.

4. Metro bus: Taking the city bus takes longer than taxi or van service but is reasonably swift (about an hour not counting the waiting time) and is very cheap ($1.25 or $2.00 depending upon the time of your trip). Here are some concrete examples of how to get to your hotel from the airport (SeaTac). You can plan your trip by using this trip planner. For detailed instructions, refer to How to use Metro bus to get to Univ. District.

The rate information regarding the following hotels is current as of April 9, 2003. Note however that some rates are obtained from the web. Web-based rates can change at any time. You can explore other possibilities if you wish. Refer to sites such as this or this for more information (especially opinions and short descriptions) about the hotels listed below. (Please refer to them just for hotel info; they are for different departments/conferences.) The locations of all hotels listed here are found here. Though the hotels listed here (less than 1.5 miles) are all within moderate walking distance of the university (see distances below), the campus is large; hotel shuttles, town car (= limousine) services, metro buses, etc. are listed with each hotel below. Husky Union Building (HUB) in the driving/walking instructions is not a conference site, but is in the center of the campus and serves as a reference point. Note also that the directions and distances given below are for cars; if you walk, the distances should be shorter. For your information, 1 km = 0.6214 miles (or 1 mile = 1.61 km). Star ratings given below are rough and are based upon web information.
