Research Interest:
I am currently investigating the role of cyclic-diguanylate (c-diGMP) signaling in Salmonella enterica. The levels of c-diGMP in the cell are regulated by proteins containing GGDEF domains that act as diguanylate cyclases, and proteins containing EAL domains, that are believed to act as phosphodiesterases. C-diGMP is a widely distributed second messenger among many gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, and has been shown to be involved in a number of functions including the transition from sessility to motility, regulation of cellulose synthesis and biofilm formation, and bacterial killing of macrophages.
