Facilities

In our laboratory we use state of the art analytical chemistry techniques to develop sensitive and specific assays for measuring trace chemical contaminants in environmental and biological samples. We make extensive use of solid phase extraction, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GCMS and HPLC/MS/MS).

We also work closely with our departmental service laboratory, the Environmental Health Laboratory (EHL) and Trace Organics Analytical Center (TOAC), which are directed by Dr. Russell Dills. The EHL has been accredited by the American Industrial Hygiene Association since 1977 and supports agencies and employers throughout the State. The TOAC is supported by research grants and income from fee-for-service analyses. These facilities support a range of sophisticated analytical instrumentation including GC/MS, HPLC/MS and ICP/MS systems.
