Dr. Guozhong Cao is Boeing-Steiner Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and Adjunct Professor of Chemical and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington. He received his PhD from Eindhoven University of Technology (the Netherlands). Dr. Cao has published over 200 refereed papers, and authored and edited 4 books and 3 conference proceedings on nanotechnology. Dr. Cao serves as editor of Annual Review of Nano Research and associate editor of Journal of Nanophotonics. His current research is focused mainly on chemical processing and characterization of nanostructured materials and coatings for energy related applications as well as biosensors and biomedical applications.

When Nickas an undergrad, he researched and designed low cost photovoltaic cookers for use in developing countries. He also worked on next generation concentrated solar power plant design at NREL. And now his current research focus is zinc-ion batteries and microbatteries.

His prior research experience includes investigating thermal energy storage materials at the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. Before joining the UW MSE department, Arun spent time in industry honing his data science proficiency, and developing valuable product management skills.

Hemanth graduated from National Institute of Technology Karnataka, India in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. During his undergrad, he worked on MXenes and their applications in energy storage and conversion. He moved to Washington to pursue his masters and for his love for coffee and mountains. Currently he is working on modeling LiBs using data driven and experimental approaches. In his free time he likes to hike, lose board games, play basketball and cook.

Shovon is an Electrical Engineer with a strong interest in energy materials and storage systems. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering in order to further his knowledge and expertise in this field. When he's not busy with his studies, Shovon enjoys spending time in nature, whether it's hitting the slopes on snowy mountains or taking a leisurely kayaking trip on a lake. When he's not outdoors, he can be found playing video games or listening to metal music. Despite being a fan of the city, the only thing that Shovon doesn't like about Seattle is its frequent cloudy weather.

Sungmin Woo now is a graduate student studying materials science and engineering at University of Washington. In Dr. Cao's research lab, he focuses on developing, designing, and producing advanced electrode materials. Using the materials, his final goal is to fabricate microbatteries with more than 20% high specific density compared to current microbatteries.
