Statistical Genetics at the University of Washington

University of Washington NIH-funded Training Grants for Ph.D. students in the area of Statistical Genetics

There are currently two UW NIH-funded training grants that provide trainee funding for Ph.D. students in the area of Statistical Genetics. Please note that only US citizens or permanent residents ("green-card" holders) are eligible to hold traineeships on these grants.

The Genome Training Grant (2000 --)

Statistical Genetics faculty have participated in the Genome Training Grant since its first renewal in 2000.

In addition to slots for which all students may apply in open competition, there are slots dedicated to the Statistical Genetics and to the Computational Molecular Biology programs. Elizabeth Thompson (Statistics) is the faculty coordinator for allocation of the dedicated Statistical Genetics slots for students in Statistics and in Biostatistics.

Stan Fields (Genome Sciences) is the overall director of the Genome Training Grant and Brian Giebel (Genome Sciences) is the staff manager of this grant. Please consult the Genome Training Grant web site, or contact Brian Giebel or Elizabeth Thompson for additional information.

The Statistical Genetics Training Grant (2007--)

New in 2007, is the Statistical Genetics Training Grant. (This link is to the training grant proposal: there will be a proper web site soon!) This training grant is focused specifically towards students pursuing PhD research in the area of Statistical Genetics and Genomics.

The director is Bruce Weir (Biostatistics) with co-directors Debbie Nickerson (Genome Sciences) and Elizabeth Thompson (Statistics). Please contact Bruce Weir, Debbie Nickerson, or Elizabeth Thompson for more information.
