PEDIATRIC SURGERY
Case #4 -
A male infant is brought to the emergency room

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
4.) What are the urgent concerns in this infant that require immediate attention?

The urgent concerns are loss of heat and fluid. These should be addressed appropriately. The bowel or sac should be covered with sterile dressing or saran wrap. IV fluids should be increased. Body temperature should be maintained. An orogastric tube should be placed to decompress the stomach and to prevent the bowel filling with air.
