A male infant is brought to the emergency room having been delivered at 36 weeks gestation by Caesarean section at a peripheral hospital. The mother had no prenatal care. The child is now 2 hours of age. The referral note indicates that abdominal contents are outside the peritoneal cavity. The abdomen is now wrapped in sterile dressings. An IV line is in place and the child's temperature has been maintained in transit.
