Henry Maier Practitioner in Residence Program at the University of Washington School of Social Work
Henry Maier touched the lives of countless students, faculty, community practitioners, and members of the wider world of Social Work and Child Development.
Part of Henry's great gift was the integration of play and playfulness in our everyday life and work - not in a frivolous manner but in a healthy and energized way. While teaching, his goal was always to integrate theory with actual practice. Through his own demonstrations (sometimes with toys) he had students practice and practice until they were competent. Because of his strong background working with children, he never let us forget that our first and most natural medium for exploring the world and learning is play.
In honor of his remarkable life, the Henry Maier Practitioner in Residence Program at the University of Washington School of Social Work has been established. This program will provide annual opportunities for students, faculty and the social work community to engage with a master clinician in further developing their skills in working with children and families.
