The members of the administrative core have expertise in public health and community-based research, and a commitment to addressing health disparities among communities of color, especially American Indians and Alaska Natives.
Bonnie Duran, Dr.PH (Coushatta), Principal Investigator

Dr. Duran has a wealth of expertise in multi-level public health prevention research, adaptation and translation of evidenced based models to AI/AN communities, community based participatory research methods, survey and measurement development, and dissemination and translation of findings. Her duties will include hiring, training, and supervising staff; overseeing the project’s operations; and analyzing and publishing data in conjunction with other collaborators. Additionally, she will train staff and oversee study operations in the field. She will facilitate and staff the Community Advisory Board and assume responsibility for maintenance of the Human Subjects approval of the project at the University of Washington. Finally, she will oversee financial and administrative management of the project.
Leo is the Research Coordinator for PI Bonnie Duran. He received his BA in East Asian Languages from Harvard College and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley. He worked as a self-employed export broker for 19 years, as well as a volunteer and professional writer and editor for 22 years. Leo brings organizational, budgeting, writing & editing skills, as well as a strong interest in (Native American) ethno-linguistics. He is also a five-year national board member of a social justice advocacy organization, chairing the Publications Committee.
